I went this last weekend with my student ward to lake roosevelt for boating and other fun activities. We snuck away from the group saturday to go run Salome Creek, AKA "The Jug", a short little fun canyon. Things I learned:
1. Wakeboarding is tough.
2. Nobody can teach you how to do it.
3. Every time you fall, a quart of water WILL shoot up your nose.
4. Every watersport is harder than it looks.
Now for Salome:
1. If it's possible to bring too much water, we did it.
2. It's probably more fun... 6 weeks ago.
3. I brought wayyyy too much gear with me.
4. This was all very heavy during the long and tiring swims.
5. I'm not as strong of a swimmer as I remembered.
6. This sport is every bit as fun now as it was 2 1/2 years ago.
Seriously, I brought at least 30 lbs of non-essential gear (notice helmet in pictures), including a sickeningly long amount of rope which is much more than I care to admit, "just in case." Well, now I know for next time. Traveling ultralight, with just water, a camera, and 40 ft of webbing. Salome's a fun little romp in the woods, but can turn into an unpleasant swimmer and exit hike with too much baggage.
